Confusion is the biggest word I can describe right now. Since we are in a shift in the music industry you see all these people thinking that you should revive stuff that is dead. We saw this also in the shift from physical to digital. People that were talking around vinyl and even cassettes. Now when we have totally got into streaming they even talk about getting CDs back. It’s not going to happen. Sure there will always be nerds collecting things and being retro and so on but never the majority.

But back then the music still was left unharmed, today I can even see hopeless old styles trying to be brought back. Sure we reuse some of the styles and then develop them. But here it’s like bringing back old styles in their full shape and form. Sorry, we don’t want to have the old 70:s hard rock bands with big mustaches and look like the front cover of Manowar, please keep that buried. No, it’s not cool with those garage bands playing punk rock like they did in the ’90s.

Of course, all of these attempts are done by people who were actually young when it was their heyday. So just let them have their nostalgia you say. I would but unfortunately, many of these people still are in positions that make decisions and these hopeless cases of artists take up space for new better-suited artists. By doing this they are getting the live industry much weaker than it has to be. The young people won’t get a chance to see things live since we are occupied to fill those places with old rock bands that draw old people with money right now. It’s though a very short-lived thing so you make money now and then die in four years.

Same in the debate, you see people complaining that we close down rehearsal rooms. You know what music is not done there any longer. Today it’s a totally new landscape what is the point of getting more rehearsal rooms for rock bands when the new generation will make music in a whole different way with AI. Do we need a studio, I’m not so sure any longer?

We are in a time where you have to test new methods and you will laugh at them since you are doing them, but in the end, you will find the new methods and they stop laughing and copy you on them. Of course, it’s hard but you need to do this.  Don’t be a follower and dream of the past, try something new.
